After waking up from bucket-induced hangovers we headed off for some much needed luxury and arrived at Banyan Tree Bangkok. Let’s just face it holidays should involve indulgence after all and as much as one loves flying around the sticky streets in the chaos relaxation is always needed.
On arrival we were greeted with flower garland bracelets and given lavender infused welcome drinks. Disappointedly our room wasn’t ready so we waited in reception for one and a half hours napping on and off until we were handed our electronic key.

The interior of the hotel hasn’t changed much since my last visit back in 2010 but the interior is light with Thai sculptures and fresh flowers scattered throughout the communal areas. The bedrooms have homily comforts and are well worth a sleepover.

Whizzed up to the 49th floor to our suite, we checked out our views over Bangkok city. The suite comes with a living area, study area, bar and the world’s comfiest beds.

The en –suite was kitted out with all of life’s essentials and the most glorious smelling lotions and potions that we generously smothered all over ourselves.

I’d love to tell you that we then went out to explore more of Thailand’s culture and expand our creative knowledge but that would be one big fat lie. Deciding to visit the Grand Palace and other remarkable architectural offerings when we return to Thailand towards the end of the trip.

We whipped on our bikinis and head to the rooftop pool.

We whipped on our bikinis and head to the rooftop pool.

Enjoyed a mix of salad and mammoth club sandwiches by the pool, washed down with Saigon beers. Winning at life!

Finally dragged ourselves off the sun loungers and splashed about until the sky turned a fantastic shade of purple, we spied on the bustling streets below lapping up the phenomenal views.

After a spruce up and dance off in our kimono robes we trotted on out to Saffron Restaurant on the 52nd floor.

Saffron is a traditional Thai restaurant and serves some of the finest food known to man. I’ve eaten in the restaurant some six years ago and have been dreaming of the massaman curry ever since.

The chef brought over a few antipasti dishes for us to indulge in which were consumed before I managed to snap away.

Watermelon infused cocktails were our poison, accompanied by a colourful sharing selection of starters so we could test a bit of everything.

Not able to speak – the only sounds that could be heard were ummms and ahhhs with each mouthful.

Naturally massaman curry was our main choice, our waiter scooted over with a trolley full of different rice options, jasmin rice being the winner, we tucked into our delicious curry scooping up the sauce with rotis. Quite simply the most incredible massaman curry I’ve ever had – fact.

The interior was romantically lit, with floor to ceiling views out onto the city. Red fabrics wrapped the space, and faux flowers made of silk decorated the walls.

Too full for desert we headed up to the 62nd floor to Vertigo bar for cocktails.

Passing through a staircase wrapped in floating chains made out of copper.

If you suffer with vertigo this isn’t for the faint hearted, also probably not the type of venue you want to drink too much at either- as you’ll be carefully treading all the way up and down.

Greeted with jet-black skies you’ll find yourself towering over the city lit up with glittering lights.

There’s something quite thrilling about hanging out on top of the city and watching the world go by from all those floors up!

Overlooking the city, watching lightning break above us created the most fantastic show as we sipped on more cocktails and spicy nibbles.

The next morning we were gutted to leave our cloud-like beds behind, took advantage of an early morning dip in the pool, followed by healthy juice drinks in the jacuzzi. Packed up and headed to the airport to catch our flight to Vietnam for the real adventure to begin.
