Living Like A Pig

The Pig Hotel Brockenhurst

It’s been a long time. A very very long time since I shared anything with you.

I’ve been holding back on you guys, whilst I’ve been busy soaking in inspirational places and figuring out what I really want to show you. But my guilt has set in at last, so be prepared for a whirlwind of posts coming your way.

Before we get into anything too strenuous seeing as it’s still Christmas holidays, come and a take a peek at your next country retreat. Pour yourself a hot drink, or glass of bubbles (I’m not judging) and get ready to unwind by the fire scrolling through this post.

If you haven’t been to The New Forest, you need to change this immediately. I’ve got just the place for you to stay – The Pig Hotel, Brockenhurst.

Those who have followed for a while will know I’ve stayed at a Pig Hotel before in Bath and went on and on and on about how much I loved it.

Newbie’s, it’s time you step inside and explore the interior. I’m feeling pretty confident that you’ll understand my love affair.

The hotel is set in a limestone clad country house, the porch is equipped with glowing lanterns, patterned tiles and of course a pastel coloured door – now that’s my kind of entrance.

The entrance is lined with wellies and lawn games for when you’re ready to head out into the country air. Although once you’re inside, it’s quite hard to pull yourself away.

As an interior designer, I spend my time creating interiors following a brief with a client’s vision in mind. Its all fun and games letting your imagination run wild and creating something mind blowing with chunky budgets. But when daydreaming, I never think ‘wow I wish this was my home.’ Let’s just say cosy and quaint is much more by vibe.

But one step into the Pig Hotel and I instantly feel a buzz of excitement wanting to check out every single room, touch every fabric, and inspect every piece of furniture. Yes – it’s quite disturbing to witness.

Brick walls, roaring fires, textured tweed fabrics, antique cabinets and reclaimed timber flooring, creates comforting and cosy pockets of the hotel. You’ll find it hard to resist diving onto the sofa and popping your feet up on the couch.

It’s hard to not let yourself get too chilled and end up snoozing by the fire midday. Obviously you can if you want, it is your weekend escape after all.

Before you get too relaxed I suggest snooping around the rest of the rooms, order a snack or just chill out with a paper by the fire.

Although the hotel is always fully booked, the layout and sumptuous interiors make you feel like you have the whole place to yourself. If only!

Skip around the grounds, through to the kitchen garden. The Pig provides fresh uncomplicated delicious dishes, with most of the goods plucked from their very own garden and served directly to you in the restaurant.

Guests can nose around the produce, through this pretty as a picture pink gate.

I know anything with pattern and colours is a winning combo in my eyes. Though I’m sure you’ll agree, the contrast is so striking against the red bricks.

After touring most of the grounds, we decided to check out our own room at last.

The Pig Hotel Brockenhurst

We opted for the snug room, which a charming understated luxurious room with a VERY comfy bed.

Vispring provide the Pig’s mattresses, in case you were on the look out for a new one. Of course I had to flip the bed to check for you (ahem or myself.)

The driftwood wall lights are also a tick in my opinion. So simple but add a layer of rustic charm.

The bathroom followed suit with rustic timber vanity, industrial pendant suspended above, huge freestanding shower and Bramley’s bath products that smell almost edible.

The vintage rug is soft on bare feet, and even looks good with my rose gold converses photo bombing (ON SALE).

All this exploring is quite exhausting work, so a tea break was well overdue. Followed by a quick freshen up in the shower before hitting the bar…

Nestle yourself by the fire, order some cocktails and unwind smelling the sweet scent of firewood burning.

Sour for the sis, and sweet for myself.

Dinner is a long drawn out delicious affair.

Every plate arrives beautifully presented, piled with fresh, mouth-watering dishes that you can’t help savour every bite. Wash it down with lots of delicious red wine. The homely charm in the restaurant makes you sit for hours telling tales before you realise how late it’s got.

The Pig Hotel Brockenhurst

Full and content, tip toe up to bed. Word of warning the floors are reclaimed so be careful not to trip if you’ve had a few too many glasses of red. Not speaking from experience.

Be prepared to sleep like a baby wishing you could stay here for a week, or in fact turn your own home into a replica of this place.

Assuming you’re desperate to visit, I’ve got a treat… The Pig Hotels have incredible winter offers in January & February – check it out here.

You’re welcome!
