Material Lab & Minotti

I wasn’t lying when I said London Design Festival was one busy design affair, hence the continuous posts weeks later.

The exciting installations and events are worth documenting nonetheless and I find serve as a memory bank of new collections and inspiration when I’m seeking new ideas

I managed to fuse two events into one evening that just so happened to be conveniently located near to one another. The evening started at Material Lab, a place that was built to be a hub of creativity for the designers in the industry.

Johnson Tiles funded the space and have worked closely to create an inspirational spot to gain ideas from the countless materials on offer.

The showroom presents a mixture of materials ranging from textiles, wallcoverings, leather, ceramic and even plastic.

I thought these 3d cork tiles were pretty cool and could be fun used in an urban bar design.

Material Lab hosted the launch party for Eporta, a new online system to assist with sourcing furniture and lighting for those in the interiors trade. We had an introductory as to how Eporta works and has quite an impressive stream of suppliers to choose from, make sure to browse the site.

The evening also has an insider scoop on key events over LDF that was presented by interior design journalist/blogger Katie Treggiden.

Of course the party was accompanied by nibbles and colourful concoctions from the mixologist’s.

This truffle infused cocktail was the brightest thing I’ve ever had, I wondered if I’d turn into the incredible hulk after consuming it.

In between sipping our cocktails we explored the labs display, these wallpapers were a mixture of textured and flat papers with intricate patterns, geometric shapes and some with organic forms.

Minotti is an Italian brand that was formed back in the 1950s by Alberto Minotti, they offer luxurious and beautifully crafted upholstered furniture and recently underwent a full refurbishment just in time for party season.

We whisked past the Minotti branded billboards and wormed our way into the packed out party.

I managed to capture a few shots of pieces I wouldn’t mind owning myself.

The Minotti Close Desk is a rather elegant work set up, although I doubt it would stay looking this pretty if I was sat at it with my line of tea mugs.

The Aston Cord chair can be used indoors or outdoors and is exceptionally comfortable. The laid back look with rope finished detailing to the back works well in slick contemporary interiors.

If you were looking for a statement coffee table to sit pride of place at home, look no further than the Elliot Coffee Table.

Minotti created the jewel-like Elliot table using precious marble Sahara Noir as the top and the sides are wrapped in a metal shiny gold frame.

As you can see the party was busy and booming with guests, that meant it was hard to see all the pieces, I recommend visiting the newly refurbished Margaret Stree store in London to check out what else is on display.

Nevertheless it was a party after all so less work and more playtime was needed, we guzzled away on mini bottled delights.

Followed by Minotti branded macaroons whilst we chatted away.

Another inspirational and indulgent evening out, the perks of working hard have to pay off after all.
