The Last Dance: Glasto 16

Casualties from the mud were evident every corner you turned, creating wellington graveyards throughout the fields. But luckily my RHS Hunters survived the impact.

The morning began with Pad Thai for breakfast – don’t judge. Another thing that foodie lovers out there will adore is dabbling in cuisine from all over the world throughout the festival.

The Pyramid Stage was smeared with a dusting of hay making it the perfect spot to sit down and sway to Gregory Porter.

P1250592

The crowds went do eyed when Mr Porter egged on a proposal on stage (the third Glastonbury proposal I’d heard so far.)

After Laura Mvula’s chilled performance we tucked into halloumi wraps smothered in garlic sauce – it went down a right treat.

Ventured back through the muddy lands and headed to one colourful bar that had vibrant paper streamers hanging from the ceiling.

An ideal backdrop for some pint downing antics and counting which number Glastonbury each of us were on as if it were a badge of honour.

Plus getting envious each time we’d spot clean people pass by.

Catfish and the Bottleman gave one lively performance on the Other Stage.

We stepped into a tent full of hyperactive partygoers; jumping all over the place busting out similar moves I made as a child.

They seemed to be having a great time and screaming with excitement every time the lights changed.

We gave them a run for their money with our eccentric moves before heading back out into daylight.

The Sunday night headliner was Coldplay; we spent most of the day spreading rumours about who the guest performers would be for the last show.

After settling into our spot for the evening, we switched our pints to spirits to avoid frequenting the long drops so often (great tip right there!)

Stewards gave out wristbands throughout the day and as Coldplay began to play the entire crowds wrists lit up sending massive cheers throughout the masses.

The performance was incredible filled with balloons, streamers, lights flickering, fireworks you name it they had it.

Danced and sang like there was no tomorrow, and even shed tears of happiness as they rounded of their evening inviting Barry Gibbs from the Bee Gees on stage to close the night with some tunes.

Micheal Eavis the festival owner also had a singsong and marked the finale of Glasto 2016.

After heading for a few drinks we meandered back to our campsite for our last nights kip. Kicked off the wellies and sat sadly in our tents, and then decided it wasn’t time to accept the weekend was over yet.

Climbed through mountains of mud up to The Park and wandered into a rabbit hole around 3.30am.

At the entrance you were greeted with a carrot being smacked in your face by a rabbit that looked incredibly like Dermott O’Leary.

Passed through a tunnel wrapped in roses into a Madhatter’s Tea Room where some pretty mad people greeted you with hugs and kisses before leading you out into an unknown path.

Eventually you appear in the middle of a booming bar unable to find your friends as who knows which path they have taken.

The rest of the evening was spent surrounded by heavy base music and topless dancers as everyone bopped until the early hours of the morning.

The next morning reality struck that the festival was over, but to my excitement my Coldplay wristband was still changing colours in the morning.

Piled all our filthy items in the car we whizzed off in search of clean water and flushing toilets. Stopping off at the services on the way home just to keep the Glasto spirits going alongside the wrecked, muddy shoeless masses hanging out in Mc Donald’s. Struggling to walk normally on solid ground when you leave the muddy lands always makes you chuckle.

There’s a ritual of things that take place after leaving, the first being inspecting the colour of the water after your first bath in six days.

Followed by sitting in pajamas watching highlights on BBC iPlayer and obsessively messaging your Glasto crew about the release dates for 2017.

You won’t dream of a festival like it, make sure to visit once in your lifetime. Keep your wristband and on for as long as humanly possible, upload pictures to Instagram hash tagging #GlastoBlues.

To help get over my blues I luckily had tickets to British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park seeing Mumford & Sons on Friday and Stevie Wonder on Sunday. Tough life I know, but someone has gotta’ do it.

What festivals plans do you have this summer? Happy Festival Season!
