Pick N’Mix Tile Style

I was recently invited to Solus Ceramics launch party to check out their brand new shiny showroom, based in Baker Street.

I was instantly excited by the array of coloured tiles that lined the walls and the chilled glass of champagne that instantly appeared in my hand.

As you enter the showroom the walls are covered in tiles in every colour and texture you can possibly imagine. I felt like a child in a sweet shop, just as giddy as I helped myself to the pick n’ mix sample display.

You simply select a sample from the wall, scan it with one of the electronic tablets that are about and the sample magically arrives at your door without the hassle of lugging the tiles home. I spent sometime scanning my new stash before the bar called my name downstairs.

In the time I’d spent picking tiles, I could hear the showroom buzzing on the floor below and quickly headed on down.

The showroom is huge and every wall has an interesting feature to check out. Starting with a mosaic mural representing an Olympic swimmer.

Walls clad in a mixture of hexagon ceramics, a trend that seems to keep on going, probably because the design is subtle but add real interest to the space. The displays had examples of various combinations that can be formed with the different tiles.

Nibbling on canapés, my favourite one being a minced pie served with a shot of gravy. Instant comfort food, gravy shots definitely work well for lining the tummy too.

I sipped on lemon cosmopolitans and strawberry mojitos chased down with mini lobster buns, shredded duck canapés and a bowl laced with gooey goats cheese. Followed by chocolate macaroons and delicate handmade chocolates to taste.

The showroom was buzzing as the DJ surrounded by decks stacked on funky displays let the tunes out.

Accompanied by an incredible saxophonist.

In the centre of the showroom there were large pull out drawers full of porcelain tiles in countless shapes and colours, large format mosaics, decorative samples and textured samples.

Pretty much any tile your creative mind could think of, you’d find hidden in the tile chests.

I was then greeted by ‘Keith the Thief’ a professional pick pocket and entertainer. He successfully confused us with coin and card tricks and left us feeling completely baffled. Especially when he walked off waving a wallet and iPhone he’d pinched from one of our group. Totally entertained and paranoid we tried to solve the mystery as we sipped away.

It was a brilliant night full of laughter and entertainment. The showroom is the perfect space to feel inspired or pick products for projects and most importantly a great space for a party. I’ll be returning soon to select samples for upcoming high-end residential projects.

Pay a visit to the showroom or check out the endless tile options at Solus Ceramics.
